Range of Experiments

  1. Study the Pawl and Ratchet mechanism.
  2. Demonstrate conversion of reciprocating/oscillating motion into intermittent rotary motion.
  3. Study the working principle of pawl and ratchet.
  4. Observe the one-directional motion of the ratchet wheel.
  5. Study the indexing and locking action of the pawl.

Specifications

Pawl & Ratchet Motion is a manually operated working demonstration model designed for Theory of Machines and Kinematics Laboratory applications. It consists of a ratchet wheel, pawl, operating lever and supporting frame/base. The mechanism demonstrates the conversion of oscillating lever motion into intermittent rotary motion in one direction and prevents reverse rotation through the pawl arrangement. The model is made of metal components mounted on a rigid base and is suitable for studying ratchet action, indexing, one-way motion and locking principles. It requires no external power supply and is suitable for engineering colleges, polytechnics, ITIs and technical training laboratories.
